While the Warrenton boys basketball team may not, collectively, have all the answers, a big one recently came to light. After starting the season 1-6, the Warriors have won three of the team’s last four games by sharing the basketball, much to the delight of Coach Mark Thomas. After defeating Wright City on Dec. 29, the Warriors reeled off back-to-back wins at the ’12 courts of Christmas’ event in Kansas City, beating New Heights Christian 56-52 in overtime on Dec. 29 before running past Lexington (Mo.) 69-45 the next day. Warrenton dropped its most recent home game on Monday to St. Charles. “They’ve figured out that using each other is going to make it hard for teams to guard us,” Thomas said. “That’s how everybody eats.” more
Zoe Duncan had quite a night for herself on Tuesday. The Warrenton senior forward recorded her first career double-double, including career highs in points scored and rebounds. The Wright City girls' basketball team fell into an old pattern on Thursday. This time, though, it came in a close game, and it ultimately cost the Wildcats a victory. Up by a point over Veritas Christian at halftime, the Wright City offense went ice cold, scoring just six second-half points in the 47-22 loss in the teams’ seventh-place game at the Orchard Farm Tournament. Backed by the heroic return of junior Alexis Ruff, the Warrenton girls wrestling team made history Friday at the ‘War in Wentzville’ tournament, hosted by Liberty. Ruff, wrestling in her first tournament this season after recuperating from a torn labrum suffered in August, was named the wrestler of the tournament, as voted on by the event’s respective coaches amongst each wrestler at the event. more
