The Warrenton Warriors finished the regular season 4-1 in GAC North matches after falling to St. Charles West in their final dual of the season Tuesday.
Warrenton (4-3) fell to St. Charles West 159-181 in their final regular season match at Country Lake Golf Club. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for Warrenton in conference matches.
Warrenton’s Troy Anderson was the lone Warrenton golfer to place in in the top-five. Anderson shot a 42 over the nine-hole round to place fourth. Ethan King placed second among all Warrenton golfers with a seventh place finish. He shot a 45. Owen Thompson shot a 46 and Maison Rader shot a 48 to round out Warrenton’s counting scores. Ethan Leavitt also competed during the varsity competition. He shot a 50.
“I saw some personal bests tonight out of a few kids,” Warrenton head golf coach Aaron Jinkerson said. “Ethan King hit a 45 so I’m hopeful that will maybe transpire to him playing well in the conference tournament next week. Overall, I’m happy with how our conference regular season went. I think we have a lot to prove heading into our conference tournament. I’m really happy with how we’ve played this year.”
Warrenton’s four conference wins are three more wins in conference than they had last year, despite introducing multiple new faces to the varsity lineup.
“Owen, Troy, Maison and both Ethans have really taken it upon themselves to be the best they can be every match,” Jinkerson said. “I’ve been really happy with the progress for sure.”
Warrenton is slated to compete at the GAC North Tournament Tuesday. They will compete the following week at the district tournament. Jinkerson said the Warriors will be fine tuning their short game over the next couple weeks. The Warriors are also getting used to playing the ball as it lies, which he said is a tough adjustment.
