The Warrenton baseball team recorded its 21st win of the season last Thursday, backed by the strong pitching of BEn Peth and a strong offensive.
Peth, a senior right-hander, threw a complete game while striking out 10 and walking five in the 10-0 triumph over Chaminade. Peth was one of five seniors who were recognized at the game, joined by Joe Goldsmith, Troy Anderson, Caleb Clark and Tyler Oliver.
The seniors have been instrumental in the Warriors' strong season as the win improved their record to 21-4-1 overall and 10-0 at home.
Warrenton broke open the game with a five-run first inning and then added three more in the second.
Clark went 3 for 4 at the plate with three runs scored and one RBI. Colin Disilvester went 2-3 with three runs and one RBI, while Goldsmith had two hits, two runs and drove a run in.
Mason Thompson and Oliver each had two RBIs.
The Warriors’ attention now turns to the postseason. Two of their four losses this spring came against squads with a higher seed, No. 2 seed St. Dominic (6-0 on April 19) and No. 3 Fort Zumwalt East (22-7 on April 6).
The fourth-seeded Warriors will open the Class 5, District 4 Tournament this Thursday, May 16, on the road at No. 5 Hannibal. The game will be played at 4 p.m. at Veterans Sports Complex.
The winner will advance to the semifinals the following day with a 1 p.m. matchup against either No. 1 Zumwalt South or No. 8 St. Charles, to be played at Fort Zumwalt East High School.
In the other first-round games Thursday, No. 2 St. Dominic and No. 7 Holt square off, while No. 3 Fort Zumwalt East and No. 6 North Point will meet.
The championship game will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Fort Zumwalt East.
