Liberty Christian earns win over Eagle Ridge Christian

The Liberty Christian Lady Eagles controlled possession throughout in their home win over Eagle Ridge Christian earlier this week.

Liberty Christian played most of the game on the offensive end in their 6-1 win over Eagle Ridge Christian. The Lady Eagles scored three goals in both the first and second half in their win. The only goal they surrendered came off a free kick in the first half.

“We got to find the back of that net finally,” Liberty Christian girls soccer coach Ken Dildine said. “I told the girls we’ve just got to get that first one. Once we get that first one, everything else will follow in its place.”

Dildine stressed their strong defensive performance throughout the game. Eagle Ridge Christian only had three shots on goal throughout the game. With Dildine’s aggressive style, he counts on his defenders to allow them to play the aggressive style.

“With our style that we play with the sweeper chaser, the two outsides, they know their role,” Dildine siad. “And they do it very well. Every once in a while, we still lapse and give up the middle. But luckily, it hasn’t come back to haunt us.”

Despite not getting to play in many games at the beginning of the season, Dildine thinks the Lady Eagles’ fitness is at a strong level. He noted his practices are built on running while also focusing on developing skills.

Dildine thinks there is more potential growth  for the Lady Eagles on the offensive end that could make them even more dangerous for opposing defenses. He thinks in certain situations, the Lady Eagles can abruptly stop while attacking to either force a defender to run by them or force contact, which would result in a free kick. Either way, this would lead to a scoring opportunity.

“Those are just a couple of small things we want to work on,” Dildine said. “I really can’t complain about how well these girls are playing right now. For my first year and really not getting to watch them play very much even last year. Just to see what they’ve come to and see the challenges that they face each and every day, with this game, to see them come through is pretty nice.”
