Three Warrenton athletes will be competing in this Saturday’s Class 4 sectional met.
Senior long-distance runner Wyatt Claiborne led the way by qualifying for two events in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs during the Class 4, District 4 Meet held at Jefferson City Helias High School.
Chance McPike and Avery Shaw also advanced in the 400 meters and shot put, respectively.
Saturday’s sectional meet will be held at Mexico High School. Like districts, only the top four finishers in each event will advance to the following weekend’s Class 4 state meet in Jefferson City.
Claiborne placed third in both of his events, recording a time of 2 minutes in the 800 and 4 minutes, 34.37 seconds in the 1,600. Capital City’s Keion Grieve won both races, with a time of 1:57.37 in the 800 and 4:32.82 in the 1,600.
McPike finished second in the 400 as Matthew Malmstrom of Helias won the race in 49.27.
In the shot put, Shaw’s qualifying throw covered 36 feet, 9.75 inches. Lillian Davis of Jefferson City won the event with a throw of 40-5.75.
Warrenton did have one athlete who missed advancing to state by one spot. Garrison Allen placed fifth in the long jump in 19-8.25.
