Construction crews will begin repaving additional portions of the sidewalk on Booneslick Road between Dryden and N. Market Street in the next couple weeks after a bid was approved for the second phase of the project at the May 6 Warrenton Board of Aldermen meeting.
The board of Aldermen awarded the bid to Sweetens Concrete Services for $511,511.
The bid was approved in a 5-0 vote, Alderman Roger Romaker was absent.
The offer by Sweetens was the lowest of the four bids received by the city, beating out the next competitor, TS Banze Construction, by over $50,000.
The first phase of that project was completed in fall 2024 and repaved the sidewalk from Thurman Street to Dryden Street.
“That project is slated to kick off here in the next couple weeks and will be finished before the Fall Festival,” said Director of Operations Jon Struckhoff.
The Fall Festival in Warrenton is scheduled for Sept. 20 and the bid packet stipulates Sweetens will have 94 calendar days to reach substantial completion of the project, weather permitting, once work begins. Sweetens will be charged a $500 per day late fee for each day work goes past the 94-day deadline.
The city will also keep a retainage of 10% of all payments to be returned after the project is complete.
Following the substantial completion date, the contractor will have another 23 days to clean up the area in order to receive the final payment from the city.
The city has retained Cole and Associates Engineering to manage the larger Booneslick Road sidewalk improvement project and they will be the contracted engineer for the second phase as well.
According to the bid packet, the project will cover the repaving of roughly 1,000 feet of sidewalk and nearby road surface to improve the quality while meeting all ADA requirements including the restriping of several crosswalks on Booneslick Road.
It will also include improvements to stormwater drainage on the road replacing several grated inlets.
If any of the work on the project is found to be defective within one year of completion, Sweetens will be required to rectify those issues at no additional cost to the city.
