The annual Strassenbash festival is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, at Diekroger Park in Wright City, with a “Happy Birthday” theme for this year’s event.
Strassenbash is free to attend. The festivities kick off with a pancake and sausage breakfast hosted by the Wright City Fire Corps at 7 a.m., followed by food vendor setup at Diekroger Park starting at 8 a.m.
Strassenbash Parade lineup begins at 10 a.m. on First Street. The parade will start from the Railhouse Pub at 11 a.m., go north on Elm, then west on West North Second to Diekroger Park.
“I guess Elm will probably be closed down for 30 minutes or so. I know that’s a busy area there, so again, try to plan ahead for that,” Police Chief Tom Canavan said at the Sept. 24 Wright City Board of Aldermen meeting.
“And then all the little side streets from Elm on down to the park are going to be closed for probably about an hour or so.”
Parade prizes will be awarded at 12:30 p.m., with a $250 first place prize, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.
The kids area and rock climbing wall open at noon and will remain open until 6 p.m., while face painting and balloon animals will be available, and a caricature artist will be on hand, from noon to 4 p.m.
There will be live music from Sycamore Creek on the main stage from 1 to 4:30 p.m., a mechanical bull from 2 to 6 p.m., and the “cutting of the birthday cake” at 2 p.m.
From 2 to 5 p.m. there will be a bubble party, and magician Jeff Lefton will be on hand, with a magic show scheduled at 3 p.m.
Strassenbash concludes with a performance by St. Louis country band Drawl on the main stage from 6 to 10 p.m. The Lions Club Beer Garden will be open from noon to the end of the festival.
