Warrenton runners compete at Clayton Invitational

The Warrenton boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Clayton Invitational last week in St. Louis, the team’s last tuneup before this weekend’s district meet. 

The Warrenton boys cross country team placed eighth out of 16 competing teams in the event. The Warriors finished with 243 points, four shy of seventh place. 

Wyatt Claiborne ran the top time among all Warrior runners in the competition. Claiborne placed 16th in the competition. He finished the 5,000 meter run in 17:46. 

Freshman Charles Bowles and senior Zachariah Bristol were the next two Warrenton boys cross country runners to finish the race. They both placed in the top-60 in the event. Bowles placed 54th, finishing the race in 19:31. Bristol finished the race five seconds later, running a time of 19:36. He placed 57th in the competition. 

Sophomore Noah Cline and senior Coalton Hill finished the race less than one second apart. Cline placed 67th and finished the race in 19:54. Hill placed 68th and finished the race in 19:54.8. Sophomore Jacob Beckemeyer finished the race in 80th place. He ran the race in 20:33. 

Madelyn Marschel ran the top time among all Lady Warrior runners at the Clayton Invitational. The senior finished the race in 29th place. She ran the race in 22:46. 

Junior Briana Grooms ran the second best time among all Lady Warrior runners. She placed 61st and finished the race in 25:33. Junior Ashlynn Reeves ran the race in 28:03 and finished in 79th place. 

Freshman Taryn Sharp and junior Abigail Palmer placed 85th and 86th in the competition. Sharp finished the race in 29:17. Palmer finished the race in 31:29. 

The Lady Warriors finished 13th as a team in the competition with 319 points. They finished five points short of 12th place and 17 points from a 10th place finish. 

Warrenton is scheduled to compete in the Class 4, District 3 competition Saturday. The competition is hosted by Parkway Central High School. The district meet is scheduled to begin 9 a.m.
