The Oak Pointe Retirement Center will be hosting a Navy Two Bell memorial service on April 27 at 2 p.m. The service will be in honor of the members of the Aviation Repair and Overhaul unit from World War II.
WWII veterans Walter Boyd, Herbert “Red” Camp and Rhesa Shaw will be attending the service virtually. Chief Petty Officer Joe George will be survived by his widow Margie George who will be attending in person.
Boyd, Camp and Shaw are believed to be the last surviving members of the AROU.
The service will be officiated by Reverend Mark Meyer and will include an honor guard, firing detail and bugler. Members of local VFW, American Legion and Marine Corps League will also be participating.
Everyone, especially local veterans, is invited to attend to honor these veterans remotely. This event is being hosted by the AROU Reunion "family" and resident Margie George, widow of Joe George.
