Warriors continue to sport unbeaten mark in GAC North play

Posted

The Warrenton baseball team heads into this week with its undefeated record in the GAC North intact and two pivotal games remaining to clinch the title.

The Warriors were scheduled to host St. Charles West on Tuesday, but inclement weather forced the game to be rescheduled for 4:15 p.m. Thursday. They will play at St. Charles West on Wednesday.

Warrenton entered the week sporting a 17-3 record overall and 8-0 mark in the GAC North.

The Warriors won two of three games over the weekend in the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament, losing 6-0 to St. Dominic in the opener and rebounding with 14-13 extra-inning walkoff over the host Panthers and 9-7 triumph against Priory.

Against Zumwalt North, Troy Anderson and Joe Goldsmith had back-to-back triples and Austin Haas followed with the game-winning hit. Goldsmith and Haas each had three hits, while Tyler Oliver and Anderson added two apiece. Goldsmith recorded four RBIs in the win, while Haas scored three runs.

In the Priory contest, Haas had a team-high three hits and Colin Disilvester, Mason Thompson and Anderson chipped in with two. Oliver had three RBIs.

On the mound, Disilvester pitched three innings for the win.

Earlier in the week, Warrenton swept both conference games with a 11-0 win over North Point on April 16 at Carshield Field in O’Fallon and 4-3 victory the following day on the road.

In the first game, the Warriors exploded for eight runs in the opening inning to take control. Anderson, Carter Martin and Ben Peth each had two hits. Peth recorded three RBIs, while Haas and Martin knocked in two apiece. Colin Disilvester, Goldsmith and Keegan Mellegaard each scored twice.

The offensive outburst backed another strong outing from Peth, who hurled all five innings for the win. He allowed only three hits, while striking out five and walking two.

The next day in a much tighter contest, the Warriors scratched across the winning run in the top of the ninth. Caleb Clark had two hits and drove in three runs, including the eventual game-winner. Haas also had two hits.

Anderson earned the win on the mound, pitching a scoreless 4 2/3 innings in relief. He struck out eight and walked two. Martin pitched the first 4 1/3 innings as one of the three runs he allowed were earned. He struck out six and walked three.
