Claiborne sets school record, Shaw adds two more firsts at conference meet

One school record was broken and the Warrenton track team captured three individual titles during the Gateway Athletic Conference North Division Meet held April 25 at St. Charles West.

Capturing conference titles for the Warriors were Avery Shaw in the shot put and discus and Marcus Greene in the shot put. Wyatt Claiborne, senior long-distance standout, is now the school record-holder in the 1,600 meter run. He placed second in the race in 4 minutes, 29.25 seconds, as Luke Nottmeyer of St. Charles won in 4:28.30.

Shaw continued her tremendous junior campaign. She won the shot put and discus with throws of 35 feet, 10 inches and 113 feet, five inches. She also placed fourth in the javelin (99-2).

Marcus Greene, a freshman, was the lone other conference champ for the team. He won the shot put with a throw of 43-8.

In the team standings, the Warrenton boys compiled 78 points and finished fourth out of six schools. St. Charles won the team crown with 177 points, followed by North Point (161) and Orchard Farm (87). In the girls standings, the Warriors were fifth with 72.5 points. North Point won the team title with 192 points, with Winfield (96.5), St. Charles (86) and St. Charles West (73) following behind.

Warrenton had multiple individuals place in the top three, led by freshman Chance McPike. He was second in both the 200-meter dash (23.27 seconds) and 400-meter run (51.25) and was third in the 100-meter dash (11.48). 

Senior Garrison Allen starred in the meet with second-place medals in the long jump (20-4.25 ) and discus (125-7). 

The 4x100 relay team of Kadin Stroer, Deadrick Forrest, Allen and McPike finished third in 45.37. North Point and Orchard Farm finished ahead of the squad in 44.48 and 44.91, respectively.

On the girls side, Morgan Marschel had a strong showing in the 400. She placed second in 1:01.13. Alyssa Anderson of North Point won the race in 1:00.27. 

Sophomore Mikayla Witthaus also threw well, placing second in the shot put (32-7) and third in the discus (88-4).

Senior Evangeline Rhama earned two top-three finishes as well, finishing third in the 100 (13.30) and long jump (15-2.75).
