Warrenton native promoted by state fire marshal

Warrenton native Matt Luetkemeyer has been promoted to the position of assistant state fire marshal, effective Feb. 1.

Luetkemeyer has been serving as the Division of Fire Safety’s statewide mutual aid coordinator since August 2016, said State Fire Marshal J. Tim Bean. Luetkemeyer is taking over following the retirement of Assistant State Fire Marshal Greg Carrell on Jan. 1.

“Matt has done a great job as statewide fire mutual aid coordinator. He’s built stronger relationships with our partner agencies across the state, he’s a hands-on leader and a strong team player, who is always quick to recognize and credit great job performance of his co-workers,” Bean said. “I look forward to him continuing to lead and to building on the gains we’re already achieving at DFS.”

Luetkemeyer gained invaluable experience during his 24 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement in 2016 as a master sergeant, he served in four different states and six different countries as a firefighter, driver/operator, crew chief, station chief, battalion chief, and assistant chief.

But his love for the fire service started much earlier — Luetkemeyer joined the Warrenton Fire Protection District as a junior member volunteer in 1990, gaining full membership in 1992 just prior to entering the Air Force.

Luetkemeyer will continue working on mutual aid issues until the state fire marshal’s office transitions a new person into that role.

Luetkemeyer is a native of Warrenton and a 1992 graduate of Warrenton High School.
