Firefighters with the Warrenton Fire Protection District responded to a water rescue around 11 p.m. on the evening of March 29 and were able to save one individual, although another passed away, according to a post on their Facebook page.
The names of the individuals have not yet been released.
According to the post the rescue took place near the 28000 block of Sunnyside Road where a canoeist on the lake began taking on water and called for help while attempting to return to shore.
The district reported a second individual came to the canoeist's aid and by the time first responders arrived, the canoeist had reached the shore but the second individual was missing.
First responders from several agencies around the area conducted an exhaustive search before relenting and calling the Metro West Fire Dive Team from St. Louis County.
Unfortunately the dive team recovered the second individual from the lake and he was deceased. From there the scene was turned over to the Warren County Sheriff's Department and the Warren County Coroner's office.
Other agencies responding to the scene included the Marthasville Fire Protection District, the Wright City Fire Protection District, The Warren County Sheriff's Department, the Warren County Ambulance District and the Missouti State Highway Patrol.
