Warrenton contracting with Midwest Pool Management in wake of Aquatic Center Director's retirement

Posted

Warrenton Aquatic Center Director Lisa Kramer will be leaving the city staff at the end of this year, and the city will be contracting with Midwest Pool Management to take over daily operations.

Kramer has led the aquatic center since August 2019 and in her time there she has overseen an increase in membership and participation in aquatic center programming.

“We’ve been able to build membership up by a lot,” said Kramer. “I’ve developed programming, we have over 60 kids in swim lessons every session. I went from one water fit class when I started to now we offer 17 different classes throughout the week.”

The Warrenton Board of Aldermen decided to contract with Midwest Pool Management in the wake of Kramer’s departure at their Dec. 3 meeting. City Administrator Brandie Walters said the company wouldn’t actually start until Jan. 1, 2025 since Kramer’s retirement is not effective until Jan. 5, 2025, but this would allow them to get a head start.

“The next item in place is for them to go ahead and get started, they will just start planning and hiring. Everything won’t go into effect until Jan. 1,” said Walters.

Kramer was also pleased with how she had been able to fill out the lifeguard staff at the aquatic center during her time there and said she hoped the management company would keep her staff.

The decision to retire was not one she came to overnight. She had originally planned to retire before working at the aquatic center after 18 years at the YMCA in Chesterfield. Instead she took advantage of the opportunity in Warrenton, and now she is officially done.

“This year I’m retiring for good. My husband and I have decided to retire together,” said Kramer. “We are going to do some traveling and spend time with the grandkids.”

The city contracted with Midwest Pool Management for management of the pool and staff for $60,300 for 2025.

“I hope that the management company continues to maintain the staff I do have in place,” said Kramer. “I have full confidence in the lifeguards that I have hired and with the instructors as well as my management team.”
