Warrenton announces Jo Dee Messina to headline Fall Festival

Warrenton officials announced last week they have booked country artist Jo Dee Messina to headline this year’s Fall Festival.

The event is scheduled for Sept. 20 of this year and Messina will take the main stage at 7:30 p.m. that evening, according to a press release from the city.

“We’re pretty excited about Jo Dee Messina,” said City Director of Operations Jon Struckhoff. “I think it’s going to be a good show, a lot of people know her and she’s been around a long time.”

Known for hits like “Heads Carolina, Tails California” and “I’m Alright,” the Grammy-nominated artist was selected by the Warrenton Tourism Board to headline the event.

“Jo Dee continuously sells out venues of all types, with a live show that entertains fans of all ages and gives them opportunities to create memories, as generations come together and sing the songs that continue to make up much of their lives’ soundtracks,” said the city in a press release.

The city also noted Messina’s involvement in the resurgence of country music in the ‘90s and her nomination and reception of several awards through the ACM, CMA and AMA as well as nine Billboard No. 1 hits.

“Jo Dee is one of the most passionate, high-energy performers in the business,” said the city in the press release. “Sharing her hit tunes, unreleased, emotionally-driven songs, worship music and personal testimony. She travels the country and receives rave reviews for her authenticity, commitment and openness on stage.”

Also performing at the festival on the east stage will be Butch Wax and the Hollywoods at noon and Shotgun Creek at 4 p.m.

Butch Wax and the Hollywoods are a local band and have performed at the Fall Festival since its inception and will make another appearance this year. This will be the first time Shotgun Creek has performed at the Fall Festival.

“A few years ago we started having a second band on that (east) stage,” said Struckhoff. “We spent money on that stage and the sound and we thought we could put another act on it.”

Struckhoff said Messina will be performing for roughly 90 minutes that evening, for which the city will pay her and the production company $45,000.

The cost is being covered by the city’s tourism board, which draws funds from hotels and motels in the city limits through a 5% tax on gross daily sales.
