The Warrenton ACES team had a strong performance at the sectionals competition on March 12, securing second place and earning a spot at the state competition at Eastern Illinois University on April 16.
As the top two teams advance, the Warriors' second-place finish guarantees their spot at state. They placed second with 417 team points after a 34-point victory over Washington High School. Clayton High School took first place with 497 points.
Club sponsor Mike Shaw highlighted that since the program's start in 2016, this is the fourth or fifth time the Warriors have beaten Washington in a competition. Warrenton has also only advanced to the state competition as a team just a few times.
The Warriors had four individual medalists at sectionals. Malia Hopper took first place in engineering graphics, while Danny Middleton earned third in the same event. Jeremiah Hunn placed second in biology and Alice Briggs took second in English.
In addition to the medalists, several other team members will also be heading to state, including Tyler Simpson, Jadyn Hopper, Bradyn Sanders, Rylan Arndt, Mydenzy Seastian, Wade Petersmeyer, Elizabeth White, Noah Cline, Becca Spencer, Shamad Henry and Charlotte Sibert.
