Warren County Commissioners approve bid for courtroom renovations

Posted

The Warren County Commissioners awarded a bid for renovations at the Warren County Courthouse to A. Eilers Construction on Jan. 16 following a bid opening on Jan. 14.

  1. Eilers Construction, a firm out of St. Peters, agreed to complete the renovations for $74,880, the lowest of the three bids received by the county. The other two bids, submitted by Meyer Construction and 5abo Construction were for $157,034 and $88,300, making Eilers’ offer considerably more attractive.

“It definitely was,” said Southern District Commissioner Dave Mikus. “We had three bids at opening and we went with the lowest bidder.”

Mikus said the renovations will be focused on courtrooms one and two and are a part of a larger project to update the courthouse.

“It’s courtrooms one and two, we’re just gonna touch them up, kind of spruce of the place with new carpet, new paint and some new ceiling tile to help deaden the noise,” said Mikus.

He continued saying the money for these renovations was budgeted two years ago, but county officials wanted to wait on renovating the courtrooms until the roof was replaced at the courthouse.

“Now that the roof has been replaced, we can replace ceiling tiles and carpet without the threat of damage from water leaking in the building,” said Mikus.

The courthouse roof was replaced in May, 2023, with help from a $310,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety which the county matched using capital improvement funds.

The Record had previously reported that the previous roof, which was 26 years old, was known to leak during heavy rains, disrupting court proceedings.

Mikus said the contractor hopes to begin work some time in February, although their timeline is not yet established.

Once they do begin work, they will spend roughly four weeks on each courtroom, working on them one at a time.

Court proceedings will be limited to one courtroom during the renovations and Mikus said they were careful to coordinate with courthouse officials so scheduling would run smoothly.

“We had to go to the courts ahead of time to kind of give them a heads up, like hey, we’re thinking about doing this,” said Mikus. “So they had to adjust their schedule, but so far I think everything’s worked out fine.”
