The Village of Innsbrook will continue to pay the Warren County Sheriff’s Department for a deputy to attend board of trustee meetings after an agreement was approved at the Aug. 12 board meeting.
Board Chairman Dan Reuter said that he had previously reached out to the department about deputies providing security at the May 14 meeting, as meetings had become adversarial.
“This is just really getting out of hand,” said Reuter. “We needed to try to do something.”
After that meeting, Reuter said that while the department was willing to continue offering its services he was told that if it remained consistent payment would have to be considered.
“He (Sheriff Kevin Harrison) told me ‘if you want this on a regular basis, we’re gonna have to have a conversation about compensation,’” said Reuter.
Currently, the deputies work for a minimum of two hours at $50 an hour, meaning their services cost the village roughly $100 a month. There have also been requests by Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Allen Huddleston for a deputy at those monthly meetings adding an additional $100 to the bill.
Reuter said that there is no timeline associated with the agreement between the village and the Sheriff’s Department and that it can be terminated at any time.
“We can cancel at any time,” said Reuter.
Overall, Reuter was pleased with how things had gone so far and felt it was a good use of a small amount of the village’s money.
“It’s a good use of $100 a month for security,” said Reuter.
