Truesdale board to hold public hearing on chicken ordinance

Posted

The Truesdale Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing on the city's chicken ordinance tomorrow evening at 5:15 at City Hall.

The hearing was rescheduled from Feb. 12 due to weather and was brought about after a citizen questioned how strict Truesdale's ordinance on residential chicken ownership was.

Currently, residents are allowed to have up to six hens, with a chicken permit at a cost of $25. Roosters are prohibited and hens must be contained and have an acceptable coop.

Chicken coops also have setback requirements of 100 feet from any neighboring residence and 25 feet from any neighboring property line.

Board members have expressed openness to changing the requirements although they said they would have to hear feedback from citizens on what changes they want to see.
