The Warrenton cross country teams had a successful day on the course at the GAC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 17. With 12 runners participating, six of them earned all-conference honors and eight runners set new personal record times.

In the boys varsity race, Matt Craven earned GAC North first-team honors. Craven placed fourth in the division and ran the course in 18 minutes, 11 seconds. Dylan Coleman and Jacob Beckemeyer both earned second team all-conference. Coleman placed 10th in 19:10 and Beckemeyer finished 14th in 19:16.

In the girls varsity race, both Ava Schneider and Abby Kackley earned second team all-conference. Schneider placed 13th in 24:01 and Kackley placed 14th for a new PR of 24:16.

“Abby and Ava ran most of the race together before Ava put a little distance in between herself and Abby, but for them to run together, it really helped both of them,” Head Coach Jeremy Collins said.

Jonathan Sweitzer, Korben Johnson, Noah Cline and Trenton Hummel also raced in the boys varsity race. Sweitzer improved his PR time by cutting 40 seconds to place 16th in 19:27. Johnson also set a new PR in 20:42 and placed 25th.

Cline came in right behind Johnson to place 28th in 20:57 and Hummel followed in 33rd in 22:03.

Overall, the boys team placed third out of six teams in the GAC North Conference.

Sophie Bennett and Melanie Guerrero also ran in the girls varsity race. Bennett set a new PR in 25:12 and placed 18th and Guerrero placed 23rd in 26:24.

“As a freshman, Melanie is making a lot of progress and she goes out there and really competes,” Collins said.

The girls were missing some runners due to injuries, but Collins is hoping to have them healthy in time for districts.

In the boys junior varsity race, Ken Le set his third consecutive PR in 21:14 earning fifth place. Le earned first team all-conference. Noah Joens also set a new PR in 28:50 to place 22nd.

The Warriors will race at the Clayton Invite on Oct. 25 before they head into the postseason. The Class 4, District 3 Tournament will be held Nov. 2 at Fort Zumwalt South.
