McRoberts Motorsports receives approval to expand facility to former auction house from Warrenton board

McRoberts Motorsports in Warrenton will expand their facility to the former auction house on the west side of their current building to construct a UTV sales, service and repair shop. McRoberts’ site plan and conditional use permit were approved by the Warrenton Board of Aldermen at their June 17 meeting.

Both measures were approved 5-0 with Alderman Christine Wait absent.

Both properties are located on Progress Parkway and Veterans Memorial Parkway near the Shoppes at Warrenton.

According to documents filed by the city, the new service and sales shop will be just over 4,800 square feet and will include retail sales, mechanical servicing and repairs for utility terrain vehicles, or UTVs.

While the expansion did receive a positive recommendation from the Warrenton Planning and Zoning Commission at its June 5 meeting, they did have several conditions that accompanied their recommendation.

Planning and Development Director Tim Burks said the P&Z commission stipulated all vehicles not for sale must be held within the fenced area on the property and no disassembled vehicles may be visible on the lot.

According to City Director of Operations Jon Struckhoff, McRoberts does have plans to pave the parking lot at their new building, but does not have a timeline for when that work would be completed.

They also clarified there would be no parking on the grass north of the sidewalk on Veterans Memorial Parkway and UTVs are only allowed to be parked on any grass during business hours.

Mayor Eric Schlueter did want to clear the air at the meeting about the expansion of the business and took the time to commend Scott and Melanie McRoberts for the way they have operated their business.

“I appreciate the way you’ve conducted yourselves, and the way you’ve worked with the city,” said Schlueter. “I also appreciate the fact that I haven’t really ever gotten any bad feedback so obviously the way you’ve treated your customers has been pretty well.”

Burks said they are also required to dispose of any tires inside the building, and that these were the same conditions imposed on McRoberts’ original facility when that site plan and permit was approved.

Alderman Roger Romaker inquired about Progress Parkway, the road that holds both facilities owned by McRoberts. Engineer Bart Kohrman clarified that the road is a private easement serving four properties including the two owned by McRoberts and was not under city maintenance.
