Marthasville still waiting on security camera installation at City Park

Posted

Marthasville city officials are patiently waiting for additional security cameras to be installed at City Park and city hall as part of an initiative to curb vandalism.

As of Sept. 20, those cameras have yet to be installed, and the city has not heard from the contractor on when they expect the order to be fulfilled.

Marthasville originally went out to bid for cameras in an effort to stifle vandalism, which had become an issue at the City Park pavilion, with damage being done to the bathrooms as well as the pavilion itself.

“We’re in the process of getting four additional cameras installed at the downtown park to help with vandalism,” Mayor David Lange said during last week’s board of aldermen meeting.

At their July 17 meeting, the Marthasville Board of Aldermen approved the purchase of four new security cameras from Washington contractor Ra-Comm for City Park and City Hall in Marthasville.

When the city went out to bid for the project, they received two options, one from Ra-Comm, who was already contracted for security at Rusche Park, also in Marthasville and AQM, a technology firm in Union.

Ra-Comm’s total bid for the cameras at the park and city hall was just under $16,000, with roughly $8,600 for the cameras at city Hall and just over $7,300 for the cameras at City Park.

AQM’s bid totaled just over $14,000 although it was turned down by the board because the Verkada cameras proposed by AQM came with a licensing agreement that would continue to cost the city annual fees.

Both bids included the price of the cameras as well as any accompanying equipment and installation costs.

The board awarded the contract to Ra-Comm, who was already contracted for security services at Rusche Park, and whose equipment did not come with a licensing agreement that would continue to cost the city money.

As of Sept. 20, Lange said he was trying to get ahold of Dale Jacquin at Ra-Comm to see when he would be able to install the cameras but had not heard any confirmation yet and only said he hoped they would be installed soon.

Lange acknowledged that Ra-Comm was a smaller company and expected that they were simply busy with other contracts and had not reached their work in Marthasville yet.
