While the livestock auction at the Warren County Fair fell short of the previous year’s record-setting totals, it still raised over $400,000 for its exhibitors.
Fifty-one entries in market beef brought in $252,070, while 47 entries in market swine totaled $107,199.75. Thirty entries of market goats totaled $18,397.25 and market lambs brought in $13,350. The market poultry and rabbit classes also had strong performances, raising $37,300 and $44,800, respectively.
In total, this year’s livestock auction netted $427,329.75, falling short of last year’s total of $497,694.52. The auction did surpass its previous totals in one category, with 194 total entries; the number of participants was higher than each of the previous two years.
Even with the decreased totals, Warren County Fair Board Chairman Paul Owenby was still pleased with the results.
“If you would compare market prices to the prices they got, a lot of them are still two, and three times market value,” Owenby said.
He felt with the success of the auction in recent years, a downswing was bound to happen at some point but still felt that support from the community was strong.
“For the greater good of the kids, the community really does support that, I think, above and beyond,” Owenby said.
The top three buyers from the evening were American Bank of Missouri, Davis Meat Processing LLC and DDJ Enterprises. There were several other local businesses represented in the top 20 including Main Street Real Estate and Warrenton Tire and Muffler.
