To The Editor,
One day not too long ago Warrenton announced they were building a new state of the art highway interchange. This new interchange would open many new opportunities for development. From Wright City to Jonesburg, citizens were excited and talking about what the area would get. In the stores, anywhere you went citizens were talking. I heard QuikTrip, Cracker Barrel, Menards, Buc-ee’s, an urgent care, a regional hospital, community college extension for our youth to name a few, all businesses creating jobs for our citizens.
Now several years later the excitement is gone. The interchange couldn’t attract anything except weeds. Well manicured weeds but still weeds.
Citizens are starting to talk again as I understand someone has or is proposing to construct one or these data center mega projects. This is the type of project most municipalities have fought not to have due to environmental concerns and many other issues.
It makes one wonder why this is all the interchange could draw to our area and why. I guess if the data center moves forward citizens will never get their Buc-ee’s or their urgent care nor any of the simple things they thought a new state of the art highway interchange would buy them. Sad day for the people who wanted the simple things to better their community.
