A new auto shop will be coming to Warrenton as Gearhead Garage received approval from the Warrenton Board of Aldermen for a site plan and conditional use permit at the May 20 meeting.
The property was formerly occupied by Auto Lube Plus Warrenton and sits just east of Steinhagen Road at 719 E Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The site plan was approved and received a positive recommendation from the planning and zoning commission in a 6-1 vote. The conditional use permit also received a positive recommendation from the Warrenton Planning and Zoning Commission in a 6-1 vote at the commission’s May 8 meeting.
The commission did recommend several amendments to the permit and site plan along with their recommendation.
Those conditions included prohibiting overnight parking in the three parking spaces located in front of the building on Veterans Memorial Parkway and the addition of nine parking spaces in the rear of the property.
The recommendation also prohibited the storage of derelict vehicles, parts or tires on the exterior of the property.
Lorne Lockhart, the owner, said he hoped to open the garage June 2 and that all conditions of the site plan and conditional use permit had been met.
He said they planned to offer all mechanical procedures at the three vehicle bays in the shop, although he said they would not work on any diesel trucks.
He also clarified they do not do any body work at the shop and any work is limited to mechanical procedures.
They also plan to offer both safety inspections and emissions testing at the shop as Lockhart said there are several dealerships he works with in the area who had requested them.
Warren County does require safety inspections on vehicles registered in the county but does not require emissions testing
Planning and Development Director Tim Burks said the plan and permit application were all compliant with city ordinances and the site plan had been amended to reflect the requirements from planning and zoning.
Both were approved unanimously, 5-0, with Alderman Larry Corder absent.
