Easter eggs get put to new use

With the cancellation of Warren County’s two largest Easter egg hunts, local organizers had to find a new use for thousands of plastic Easter eggs and goodies.

Warrenton’s annual Easter egg hunt normally brings crowds to Binkley Woods Park. This year, local families were offered the chance to pick up the plastic eggs at Warrenton City Hall. That way, families could take the eggs home and do their own personal Easter egg hunts.

City Director of Operations Brandie Walters said the city was able to give all the eggs away before the front lobby was closed to the public in late March.

In Wright City, Parks Director Curt Kehoe said they found a new use for the 8,000 pieces of candy that were supposed to go in eggs scattered around Diekroeger Park. Kehoe said Easter goody bags are instead being distributed through the Wright City School District lunch program this week. The program is delivering meals to homes throughout the community.

Kehoe joked that he was glad to find a good use for the sweets, rather than trying to store 8,000 pieces of candy for the next year.
