Mr. David Lee Wilmsmeyer, a life long resident of Warrenton, passed away on Monday, March 9. He was born on July 1, 1942 in Warrenton to the late Lawrence and Rosena (nee: Roewe) Wilmsmeyer. Dave had reached the age of 83 years.

Dave proudly served our country in the United States Army. After returning to Warrenton, from his service in the military, Dave was united in marriage to Elizabeth Newsom on June 9, 1973. This union was blessed with two children, David and Linda. Dave and Liz spent 52 wonderful years together. He spent his entire life as a farmer and enjoyed antique John Deere tractors. Other than farming, the only job Dave ever had outside of the Army, was at the Binkley Company (now SAF-Holland). He was employed there for 49 years, August 1963 - June, 2012.  He was a very social man and loved playing cards with his friends. Dave was fluent in the German language and loved the history he discovered while doing family genealogy. He was a very strong man of faith, he was active in his church and with church family, He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading books related to his faith. Dave was a devoted family man who loved his family dearly and especially loved caring for his wife, Liz. Dave will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and fondly as a "gentle giant" by his many friends and family.

Dave Wilmsmeyer is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Rosena. He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Wilmsmeyer; two children, Dave Wilmsmeyer and wife Mandy, Linda Hurt and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Jacob Hurt, Brayden Wilmsmeyer, Lexi Wilmsmeyer, Leah Wilmsmeyer and Austin Hurt; one cousin, Elda Pettig; other relatives and many close friends.

A visitation for Dave Wilmsmeyer will be held on Monday, March 16, 4 P.M. - 7 P.M. at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17, beginning at 10 A.M., also at the funeral home. A committal service will immediately follow at the Lippstadt Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donations are requested to be given to the Lippstadt Cemetery c/o Martin Funeral Home.
