Cedar Lake Cellars winery and event venue, located south of Wright City on South Stringtown Road, has been approved to add about 36 acres to its permitted area of activities.
The venue’s business includes regular traffic to visit the food and wine counters at the lakeside establishment, as well as rentals for private events and weddings. Periodically, Cedar Lake Cellars hosts major events that can include thousands of people, musical performances, firework displays or other entertainment.
The venue and adjacent fields where large events are held are actually a small portion of the property where Cedar Lake Cellars is permitted to host events and activities. Over 180 acres are contained in the area where Warren County has issued a conditional use permit for the business, stretching from Stringtown Road to Highway OO.
Warren County’s planning and zoning board is allowing the venue to add 36 more acres to that area after a March 18 public hearing. The winery purchased an adjacent property along Highway OO and also swapped land with a neighbor in order to acquire the new acreage, according to County Planning and Zoning Administrator Vickie Vohsen.
No one spoke in opposition to the new land being included into Cedar Lake Cellar’s existing permit.
Cedar Lake Cellars proprietor Carl Bolm has said that other than entry roadways, the venue doesn't have any current plans to develop the vast majority of land within its property. Quite the opposite: The land is purchased in order to preserve it as a scenic countryside surrounding the winery.
