Candidate filing for the April 8 municipal elections closed Dec. 31 and there will be several contested races for open seats on boards across Warren County.
Contested races
Warrenton and Innsbrook will both have contested races for several board seats on the ballot in April.
In Warrenton, the Mayor’s office, along with seats for one alderman in Wards one, two and three are up for election in April. Mayor Eric Schlueter has filed for re-election and will run unopposed along with Ward One Alderman Larry Corder.
In wards two and three there will be contested races as incumbents Steven Cullom and Roger Romaker will face off against challengers Christine Wait and Melissa Jepsen.
There are three seats open on Innsbrook’s Board of Trustees, which is not divided into wards. The seats of Board Chairman Dan Reuter and Trustees Cynthia Cook and John Simon will be on the ballot in April. Incumbents Reuter and Cook have filed for re-election, Simon did not refile and will leave the board in April.
Reuter and Cook will face a crowded field of challengers as five other candidates filed in the election. Challengers Linda Buschman, Mike Caton, Alice Jepsen, Lynda Baker and Sandra Zahradka will also be vying for the one of the three open seats.
That election will be won by the top three vote-getters.
Unopposed candidates
There are also a number of candidates that will be running unopposed, and will more than likely win re-election.
In Marthasville, Mayor David Lange and incumbents west Ward Alderman Leo Meyer and east Ward Alderman Gary Dixon were the only filers.
Truesdale Mayor Jerry Cannon and Aldermen Kari Hartley and Justin Naranjo are also up for re-election and will be running unopposed.
Wright City Ward One Alderman Don Andrews and Ward Two Alderman Kim Arbuthnot will also be running unopposed.
There are also seats up for election on several non-municipal boards. There are two seats up for election on the Warrenton Fire Protection District’s Board of Directors and incumbents Rob Vogelsang and Donnie Owenby were the only filers.
On the Board of Directors for the Warren County Ambulance District, Jill Smoot and Anthony Vacek will be running unopposed as will Greg Cooper and Gary Swartz of the Marthasville Community Ambulance District.
The deadline to register to vote for the April 8 municipal elections is March 12, for more information on how to register, visit the Missouri Secretary of State’s website at https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri/register.
