Wright City senior guard Devon Holmes will represent the Wildcats on the All-Eastern Missouri Conference and All-District 7 first teams, the coaches announced last week.
“It feels pretty good, honestly,” Holmes said. “I was told it’s pretty hard to get recognition for basketball playing at Wright City, so to get all-conference was really nice.”
Holmes led Wright City in nearly every offensive category, and finished the season with nearly 20 points per game.
His season high came in the Clopton Tournament against Monroe City, when he led all scorers with 32 points on 52 percent shooting.
“He definitely had some ups and downs, but no matter what was going on, he was going to get his points,” Wright City Head Coach David Evans said. “A bad night for him was still double-digit points, so he was a key factor out there for us.”
Holmes helped lead the Wildcats to their best regular season in three years, finishing the regular season at 12-12.
“I thought we did really good,” he said. “People expected us to win like five games, so winning 12 games and finishing .500 in the regular season was better than most people thought.”
Holmes, who is committed to play for the Missouri Western football program in the fall, will leave the biggest hole for the Wildcats to fill next season.
“He’s going to be difficult to replace because he could really get to the rim,” Evans said. “He’s an athlete, and he’s going to be missed.”
