The Wright City boys basketball team defeated top-seeded Warrenton 47-41 on Thursday to advance to the championship game of the Hermann Tournament.Senior Ty Davis led the Wildcats with 16 points, as they overcame early shooting woes to lead by as much as 12 before taking a 24-16 advantage into halftime.Wright City led 34-24 after three quarters, winning the battle of the boards thanks to a gargantuan effort by the undersized Christian Thompson, who gave up five inches to three Warrenton players in the paint.Thompson finished with 10 points, while senior Bret Noble added 13.Warrenton was led by senior Craig Vardiman with 14 points, while senior Alec Tonioli was held to half his average at eight points.Fourth-seeded Wright City will now face No. 6 St. James, which upset Montgomery County in the first round before beating Owensville in the semifinals, on Saturday at 7 p.m.Warrenton will meet No. 7 Owensville at 5:30 p.m.WILDCATS TAKE DOWN WARRIORSDerrick Forsythe photo.
