The Wright City R-II School District announced that Assistant Superintendent Doug Smith will retire at the end of the school year.
The announcement was made via Superintendent Dr. Christopher Berger's Twitter account shortly at 3 p.m. Jan. 31.

"Congrats Doug! Thank you for 29 years of service to @MOEducation students, but especially thank you for the four years we served @WCR2info together," Berger wrote in the tweet.
In addition to serving as an assistant superintendent, Smith is also in his first year as the head girls basketball coach at Wright City High School.
Smith is the second person from the R-II district administration to announce his retirement at the end of this school year.
Berger, himself, announced his retirement in October. The R-II board of education just named Dr. Amy Salvo as his replacement.
