Wright City plans to pursue $160,000 cybersecurity grant

This story has been updated following the Nov. 7 Wright City Board of Aldermen meeting.

Wright City plans to pursue a cybersecurity grant from the Department of Homeland Security for up to $200,000. The Wright City Board of Aldermen approved the decision to apply for the grant at their Nov. 7 meeting after postponing a decision on the grant at their Oct. 24 meeting.

Aldermen wanted more details on whether the city could pay themselves back through the grant and a more exact award date for the grant.

According to City Clerk Abbie Ogborn, the grant funds would be used to replace aging and outdated equipment like computers and servers across city departments.

She said they are seeking grant funding at the recommendation of their IT provider, NOC, who assessed their IT systems when they were brought on and found hardware that was in need of replacement.

“We’re trying to figure out right now what that priority list is gonna be,” said Ogborn.

The city would be required to match 30% of any funds approved through the grant and it would not be awarded until spring 2025, according to Ogborn.
