Those with a thirst for knowledge and entertainment will soon have a new outlet in Warren County.Construction is nearing completion at the Wright City branch of the Scenic Regional Libraries. It is anticipated that by the end of April doors will be open for patrons to enjoy one of the most advanced spaces in the area.Scenic Regional spokesperson Steve Campbell recently provided a tour for Wright City School Board members to get an inside look at the unique features the library will offer. He says Wright City is the largest community in the region without its own branch. According to Campbell, every town in the area with a population of 2,100 or more has its own library.“It’s extremely exciting to finally be able to extend service to Wright City,” said Campbell. “We serve the area with the bookmobile, but that wasn’t adequate. We’re thrilled to be providing these improved services.”Included in the new facility will be 12,000 newly purchased books specifically for the Wright City branch. The library moves beyond just a resource for books and information, in that it can serve as a community center. The space will feature public meeting rooms that can be reserved. There also will be designated areas for teenagers, with a gaming area and console with seating. Additionally, an adult reading area will feature a fireplace for quiet time. There also will be a children’s area with Lego building and a magnet board. Outdoor areas will be available for both children and adults. With the school’s close proximity to Wright City West Elementary, it is anticipated that students will frequent the building often.“We’ll now be able to do the summer reading program, and people won’t have to drive to Warrenton,” said Campbell. “It’ll be great having local access for the residents of Wright City for all the services we offer.”The branch will have 10 public computers and wireless access available.Campbell says the estimated total costs will be around $2.1 million, with construction costs at $1.8 million.“It’s a great investment in the city from us,” said Campbell.
Wright City is joining the Scenic Regional Library family. The new library is expected to open in just a few weeks.
