The Wright City R-II School District will host a parade this year as part of its Homecoming celebration, reintroducing the event as part of a spirit-themed week.The parade will take place Friday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m., weather permitting.The parade route will begin at Sunrise Church on Bell Road, turn onto Westwoods Drive and conclude at Wright City High School.Principal Matt Brooks said when he and Activities Director David Evans considered how to provide the best Homecoming memories for students, the chance to build floats and march through town was near the top of the list.“I think for he and myself, coming from places where we had parades each year, it’s kind of an important experience to actually have the parade and court here,” said Brooks. “It’s really a tradition in many places, and we want our students to have that experience, too.”The parade will include floats from the four high school grade levels, with students from athletic teams, band and other extracurricular activities participating.“We kind of limited the floats this year, since it’s the first year we’ve done this in a while,” said Brooks. “We didn’t want to get spread too thin, but we may expand in the future.”In addition to the parade, the district will encourage students to participate in expressing their spirit throughout the week with themed days.Monday is pajama day, while Tuesday is generation day. Wednesday is “white-out” day, Thursday is country day and Friday will be Blue and Gold Day, leading up to the parade and Homecoming football game that evening.On Wednesday, Oct. 23, a pep assembly will be held at the high school between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.Athletes will participate in powder puff games on Thursday, with boys volleyball at 5 p.m. and girls volleyball at the high school following.The Homecoming dance will be held on Friday following the football game, starting around 9:30 p.m. and lasting until 11 p.m.Wright City School District logo
