The Wright City girls wrestling squad continues to garner more success into the season as they recently placed third overall as a team at the St. Clair Classic on Jan. 24. In addition, five out of the seven wrestlers medaled.

Caelyn Hanff (31-2) continues to dominate for the Wildcats week after week. In the 170-pound class, she captured the title after winning all four of her matches by fall. Most notably, Hanff started out the tournament by defeating Branson’s Savannah Cisco in 29 seconds.

Kali Jensen (22-7), Sadie Sehnert (33-4) and Jolee Lockhart (20-13) all garnered second-place finishes. At 115, Jensen won her first three matches in a combined time of 1 minute, 43 seconds. She went on to win the semifinal match over St. Clair’s Amy Jahnsen, but later fell to Branson’s Alyssa Salemie.

At 135, Sehnert defeated her first four opponents. In the championship match, Sehnert lost by a 8-3 decision to St. Clair’s Peyton Dunn.

At 140, Lockhart won by fall over her first three opponents. In the semifinal match, she defeated Parkway West’s Lucy Moore by a 8-0 major decision. Entering the championship match, Lockhart fell to Sullivan’s Dorie Richardson in the second round.

At 125, Rebekah Riggs (18-11) medaled third. She won her first two matches by fall in the first round, but later fell to Fort Zumwalt East’s Kaylee Stahlman in the semifinals. Riggs rallied back in the third-place match and defeated Lutheran St. Charles’ Zaria Watson in a swift 35 seconds.

In addition, Lilliana Wiedemeier (24-14) earned a fourth-place finish in the 130-class. Wiedemeier won two matches and lost two. At 105, Gretchen Stockmann (0-9) placed eighth.

The boys team placed 11th at the tournament, with only one Wildcat medaling.

At 132, Joseph Beitel (16-7) placed second. Beitel won four out of his five matches by either fall or decision. In the first-place match, he lost by technical fall to Sullivan’s Conner Roach.

In the 215-class, Quincy Rice (19-10) finished in fourth place. Rice won his first three matches, but fell in his last two during the first round. At 144, Lane Graves placed sixth, while Ayden Dile finished eighth in the 285-class.
