Every fall, FFA members across Missouri have the opportunity to participate in the Fall Public Speaking competition. This event challenges students to develop and deliver speeches on agricultural topics with themes and requirements provided by agricultural organizations. Participants select a category of interest, write a six to eight minute speech and present it to a panel of judges. Their speeches are then followed by a five-minute question and answer session. Each chapter can only send up to two members per category.
This year, the Wright City FFA Chapter brought 12 talented members to the Area 5 Fall Public Speaking Competition. Participants had to place first or second to advance to the district level.
Six Wright City FFA members advanced to the Northeast District Competition held in Monroe City on Nov. 19. All performed well, earning praise from the judges. Danielle Fruend placed first at districts, advancing to the state competition.
Fruend will represent the Northeast FFA District at the Missouri Pork Expo in Osage Beach in February for the state competition.
