By Patrick MacCoonRecord Sports EditorAfter being shutout in the first half, Wright City responded well out of the halftime locker room speech.DeRenzo Blanks pounded ahead for big gain after big gain on the ground and Troy Muse put on a show at wide receiver, catching nearly everything that came his way.However, a comeback attempt fell just short as Orchard Farm came up with a stop on fourth down with 1:54 left and then ran out the clock to preserve a 14-12 victory on the road.Despite hardly mustering over 100 total yards in the first half, the Wildcats came out with a vengeance in the second half and scored on its first two drives. Senior running back Kyle Tuepker finished off a 70-yard scoring drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to the right pylon with 10:07 left in the third quarter to cut Wright City's deficit to 14-6.Blanks set up the score with his longest run of the night of 44 yards, which took the football down to the Eagles 11 yard line.Blanks would finish with 19 carries for 105 yards, marking his first ever back-to-back 100 yard rushing performance.After forcing a three-and-out on the Eagles next drive, senior Trey Saddler blocked a punt. The special teams play helped set up a touchdown reception by Troy Muse, who scored on a 4th-and-goal situation from 10 yards out.Muse's score brought Wright City to within two points, but a two-point conversion was thrown too high for Muse to catch.Senior quarterback Andrew Pfuhl finished 16-of-26 for 191 yards. He threw one touchdown and three interceptions, with all three turnovers in the first half and one as the halftime buzzer sounded.Muse had several big catches throughout the fourth quarter and would finish with a career best nine catches, which went for 125 yards.Through two contests, Muse now has 15 catches for 261 yards and two touchdowns. The Wildcats defense held its own throughout most of the night, but had a rough second quarter and allowed two scores and over 100 yards of total offense.Senior linebacker Austin Buchheit finished with double digit tackles for the second consecutive contest, with 12 tackles. Tuepker had 11 stops (forced fumble) and one sack.Junior defensive end David Ortega had another strong week up front with five tackles (2 tackles for loss) and a sack.Wright City dropped to 1-1 on the season and will play at Montgomery County next Friday.
WARRENTON 37, TROY 13By Derrick ForsytheRecord Staff WriterThe Warrenton football improved to 2-0 on Friday, running away from Troy in a 37-13 road victory.The Warriors showcased a diverse offense, with four different players reaching the end zone and two others contributing points. After stalling out on its first two drives, Warrenton scored on a pass from quarterback Braydan Chmiel to Hunter Russell.Troy answered with 6:36 left in the second quarter to close the gap to 7-6, but Chmiel would find Russell on a 56-yard touchdown reception and later connect on a scoring plays with Justin McBroom and Caleb Strauss to end the half with the Warriors ahead 28-7.Warrenton's offense wasn't quite as efficient in the second half, but the defense stood its ground. Dillen Mayfield connected on a 26-yard field goal and Devon Norman hauled in a touchdown catch to cap off the fourth quarter.The Warriors will host Washington next Friday.
