Record Managing EditorWright City has extended its contract for building inspection services with Robert Barclay Enterprises, Inc.,Aldermen voted 3-0 to approve a resolution authorizing the new contract between the city and Barclay at their Sept. 24 meeting. Alderman Jim Schuchmann, who owns a construction company, abstained from the vote.Barclay has served as the city’s inspector since 2009 when officials decided to contract with an outside company for the services. He initially operated under BrickKicker Inspection Services until changing the name to Robert Barclay Enterprises earlier this year.The new agreement consists of three one-year terms which began on Sept. 24 and will expire on Sept. 23, 2018.Some fees have increased compared to the previous contract, City Clerk Christine Martin said.The city will pay Barclay a monthly retainer fee of $400 and that includes up to six hours of administration services, such as phone calls or meetings with city staff, developers and builders. He will also receive 75 percent of the building and plan review fees, with the minimum amount set at $75 and $25, respectively.Should Barclay need to be involved in additional administrative work beyond six hours each month, the city will be billed $75 an hour as long as approval is granted.In addition, Barclay will conduct one free reinspection when the initial review does not meet the city’s building codes.City has opening on P&Z CommissionAlso at the Sept. 24 meeting, aldermen voted 4-0 to accept the resignation of planning and zoning commission member Sal Gertken.In a letter submitted to the board, Gertken due to time constraints.
