Woofstock returning to Wright City for third year

By Adam RollinsRecord Staff WriterA groovy event for dog lovers is returning to Wright City this weekend. The third annual Woofstock event is Saturday, Aug. 24, in Diekroeger Park. The event is a miniature festival intended to bring awareness to Warren County’s need for an animal shelter and raise funds to build such a facility. Wanda Thomas with Concerned Citizens for Animal Care (CCAC), the group that organizes Woofstock, said she expects 300 to 400 people and their dogs to come out to the event. There will be a lot to enjoy for pet owners and pet lovers. Rescue groups will have adoptable dogs at the park, dog trainers will provide demonstrations, there will be vendors and items are being offered in raffles. For the competitively minded, there will be dog-owner look-alike contest, costume contest and best trick contest. Wiener dog races, a big hit from last year, are also making a return. And for those who just want a more casual day at the park with their canine companions, miniature pools and supplies are available for a dog wash that has become like a little water park. Groomers will also be on hand to offer “pet”icures. All dogs are welcome at Woofstock as long as they’re on non-retractable leashes, Thomas said.Through previous fundraising, CCAC has raised about $100,000 and purchased a piece of property. The goal was to build this year, but a better location potentially became available, Thomas noted. While that possibility is being investigated, she said construction of an animal shelter is likely being pushed back to next year.WoofstockRecord photo
