The last barrier to the proposed Deerfield Vineyards winery in downtown Warrenton was lifted Tuesday night when the city’s board of aldermen voted to approve a site plan and conditional use permit for the venue. The proposal passed with a 5-0 vote and a thumbs-up from Board President Mike Shilharvey.Deerfield Vineyards will offer wine produced in-house and craft beer from around the Midwest. Owner Bob Truetken said he also has plans to build his own beer brewery within the next couple of years. The winery would be at the site of the former Stewart’s Drug store at 227 E. Booneslick Road. Truetken said he hopes to open in April or May.“I am very excited about being part of revitalizing downtown,” he previously told the Warren County Record.“I’m hoping we bring a lot of foot traffic in, and that will encourage other shops to come in.”Truetken, a Warrenton area resident, said he has seen downtown become stagnant and wants to create a new downtown destination.Plans for the interior include couches, fireplaces and waterfalls. The site plan also includes outdoor seating surrounded by grape vines.Customers will be able to buy wine and beer by the glass, as well as wine by the bottle. The venue will be available to reserve for private events, Truetken said.Winery
