After some back and forth play, the Wright City Wildcats fell to Van-Far 40-34.
In the first quarter, the Indians put up eight points on the scoreboard off a three-yard drive and a two-point conversion. Duan McRoberts responded and scored off a nine-yard drive late in the first. Kaleb McCory added one extra point and the quarter ended with Van-Far leading 8-7.
In the second quarter, Ben Rodriguez gave the Wildcats some momentum after intercepting a pass to put Wright City at the Indian’s 38-yard line. The momentum continued for Wright City and Dayton Humphreys ran for a 54-yard touchdown.
With three minutes left in the first half, Van-Far threw a 28-yard touchdown reception and then blocked Wright City’s field goal to return for another touchdown. The Indians led 24-14 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Indians ran for another touchdown and completed a two-point conversion. Wright City went down 18 points, but did not let the deficit slow them down.
With one minute left in the third, Humphreys threw a deep pass to Jersiah Higgins for a 78-yard touchdown reception. McCory added on another point. At the end of the third, Van-Far led 32-21.
Early in the fourth quarter, Kayden Allison caught a 13-yard pass from Humphreys to make the game a narrow five-point margin. Van-Far responded and scored another touchdown. However, Wright City did not quit and Humphreys rushed for a three-yard touchdown.
With less than three minutes remaining on the clock, the Wright City defense tried to push through, but the Wildcats lost in a close game 40-34.
