Joseph Widner is running for state representative in Missouri’s 42nd District.Candidate filing for the Aug. 7 primary election closed March 27.Widner is running to replace Rep. Bart Korman, who can no longer seek re-election due to term limits.The primary will determine who runs for office in the general election Nov. 6.The 42nd District is compromised of Montgomery County and includes a major part of Warren and a portion of St. Charles counties.Widner points to education and improving the lives of working families as two of this top priorities.“I want to make sure that Missouri’s working families don’t have to struggle just to make sure our children have a better future than their parents.“For starters, I think that means making sure our schools are fully funded, and that students in more rural areas have access to the same resources as those in the cities. It also means creating opportunities for working families and ensuring access to decent paying jobs; jobs that allow families to do more than live paycheck-to-paycheck,” he said.“I was raised in a hard-working family, and I intend to keep up that hardworking tradition while serving you in Jefferson City,” he added.Widner was raised in Montgomery City and attended Montgomery County High School, where he was involved in numerous organizations and activities.Widner attended Westminster College where he received his Bachelor of Arts, majoring in both philosophy and political science. In his fraternity he served at vice president, two terms as recruitment chair and chaplain. He represented the local chapter at the organization’s Biennial National Convention in Washington, D.C., and later served as legislative intern for Rep. Korman.Widner attended law school at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He earned a seat on the school’s law review, served as vice president of the American Constitution Society and was inducted into two separate honor fraternities, Phi Delta Phi and Phi Kappa Phi.
