The Warrenton Warriors track and field team brought home an impressive collection of conference honors at the GAC North Championships on May 1 at Orchard Farm High School.
The Warriors were crowned conference champions in seven different events. Morgan Marschel won titles in three of those events, while Avery Shaw and Isham Keeper each had titles in two events.
Marschel sprinted to first place in the 200-meter dash (27.18 seconds) and the 400-meter dash (59.76 seconds) and helped the 4x200 team, which included Isabelle Morris, Claire Goldsmith and Ava Schneider, place first in 1:55.51. Marschel ran under one minute in the 400 for the second consecutive week.
Shaw showcased her strength in the field events. She placed first in both the javelin throw (32.91 meters) and the shot put (11.38 meters). She also came in second in the discus throw in 31.94 meters.
Keeper, who is competing in his first season with the Warrenton track team, won the high jump with a leap of 1.78 meters and ran the anchor leg of the first-place 4x400 team which also included Antwian Pierce, Dylan Coleman and Jonathan Sweitzer.
Also for the Warriors, Coleman came in second in the 800 (2:10), Marcus Greene placed third in the discus (37.46) and second in the shot put (14.02), Mikayla Witthaus finished second in the shot put (10.55) and third in the discus (28.07), the 4x200 of Keeper, Sweitzer, Drake Brandriff and Jordan Lopez finished third (1:36.65) and the 4x100 of Goldsmith, Witthaus, Morris and Schneider placed third (57.07).
Warrenton placed fourth with 92 points in the girls division and fifth with 61 points in the boys division.
Both teams will compete on May 10 at the North Point Last Chance meet.
