Three Warrenton Warriors took home first place finishes at the Warrenton Tournament last weekend.

Anthony Lombardo, Noah Lohrmann and Manny McCauley each took home first place in their weight class to help Warrenton place third as a team.

Lombardo went 4-0 on the day to win the 157-pound weight class.

Lombardo pinned Tristan Webb of St. Charles West and Matthew Hyde of Winfield in his first two matches of the day. Lombardo beat Evan Weingart of Parkway Central on a 7-3 decision in the semifinals to advance to the finals. He pinned Aaron Hargis of South Callaway with 13 seconds remaining in the championship match to complete his undefeated day.

Lohrmann won all three of his matches in the 126-pound weight class. Lohrmann won his opening match of the tournament by pinning Evan Moore of Pattonville in 51 seconds. After beating Charlie Reid of St. Charles on a 7-2 decision in the semifinals, Lohrmann beat Kaleb Caldwell of Hallsville in the finals. Lohrmann beat Caldwell on an 8-2 decision.

McCauley won a pair of contested matches to place first in the 106-pound weight class. After winning his quarterfinal match by forfeit, McCauley beat Aaron Watson of St. Charles West on a technical fall 17-1 to advance to the championship match. McCauley pinned Paxton Crane of Hallsville in 2:38 in the championship match.

Warrenton wrestling coach Clayton Olsson liked the aggressiveness all three wrestlers showed in their matches.

“They’re going out there. They’re looking to score points,” Olsson said. “They’re not just sitting back hoping it’s going to happen. They’re making the things happen that they want. They’re going out and moving their opponent. They’re dictating the pace of the match, which is what we tell them in practice all the time.”

Three additional Warrenton wrestlers placed second at the Warrenton Tournament.

Joshua Kassing went 3-1 in the 120-pound weight class. Kassing earned wins over Dallas Grantz of Missouri Military Academy, Ethan Doerrer of Pattonville and Benjamin Schroder of Father Tolton to advance to the finals. Kassing lost to Paxton Martin of Hallsville in the championship match. Martin pinned Kassing in 2:46. Jeremiah Kassing and Jacob Ruff both split their two matches to place second in their weight class. David McCauley went 3-2 in the 144-pound weight class to finish in fifth place. Warrenton finished the tournament with 140.5 team points.

“We did really well,” Olsson said. “I think we lost four total matches the entire day as a team. That’s really good. We took third as a team overall and we only had seven guys. So they competed really well. It was a very successful tournament.”

The Warrenton wrestlers were scheduled to compete at the Westminster triangular Wednesday against Westminster Christian Academy and Ft. Zumwalt East. They are scheduled to compete at the GAC North quad meet Tuesday at Warrenton High School. The GAC North meet is the last scheduled competition for the varsity wrestlers before the district tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 17 and Feb. 18.

Olsson thinks the Warrior wrestlers are in a good place heading into the district tournament later this month. He said their conditioning is in a good place. They will just focus on fixing minor technique issues.

“That’s kind of what we’re working on is we’re fine tuning our timing, our setups for the different moves and trying to just tweak different little things,” Olsson said. “We’re not trying to change the way they wrestle at this point. We’re just trying to make it better, what they already do.”
