The Warrenton Board of Aldermen approved an update to the city code regarding accessible and off-street parking Tuesday, Oct. 20, to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act and current state requirements.
The changes included removing a section of the city code on “physically disabled parking” and replacing it with a section on “accessible parking.” Changes in the section include requiring that accessible parking spaces comply with the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
Similarly, changes to the off-street loading and parking section include requiring owners of parking facilities to designate a minimum number of accessible spaces as outlined in the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
“So this updates the language and brings the city code up to federal and Missouri standards,” Director of Planning & Development Tim Burks said.
The vote to approve the code changes was unanimous among those board members present. Alderman Larry Corder was not at the meeting.
