The Warrenton softball team will be making its first state appearance in program history.
The Warriors clubbed two home runs — one each from Jenny Jansen and Destinee Frost — to beat Incarnate Word 17-2 in four innings Saturday in the Class 3 quarterfinals.
Warrenton (26-2) will face the winner of Helias and Logan-Rogersville in the state semifinals Friday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. The state tourney will be held at Killian Park in Springfield.
The third-place game will be held Friday at 7 p.m., while the championship game is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 4 p.m.
In Saturday's quarterfinal game, Warrenton scored three runs in both the first and second innings to jump out to a quick advantage. In the third, 12 batters went to the plate as the Warriors erupted for eight runs.
Taylor Nordwald allowed just two runs, both earned, in the four-inning affair. She struck out four and walked three.
