Warrenton proceeding with redesign of website

Record Managing EditorWarrenton officials are moving forward with a redesign of the city’s website.Aldermen, last month, accepted a $21,900 proposal from CivicLive to proceed with updating and hosting the website. CivicLive, based in Canada, specializes in building government-related websites. The city had budgeted $25,000 for the project.Other bids that were considered were from eGov ($13,570) and CivicPlus ($23,258). Overall, the city received 11 proposals. A committee comprised of staff that had experience updating the city’s current website narrowed the list by rating the proposals and then holding interviews and a demonstration with the top three companies.Police Chief Greg Houdyshell, who was on the committee, said the redesign will focus on five areas: citizen dashboard, backroom software, consistent design, meeting agendas and minutes; and usability.“These five points set them far and above from eGov,” Houdyshell said.He noted the content management system was user-friendly so that staff can update the content on the website. Also, a citizen dashboard page will be created to allow residents a place to report issues, such as a pothole or missing street sign, and be able to keep track of it until it is resolved.“This to us was a huge deal,” Houdyshell said. “To me, this really makes it a virtual city hall. For somebody that does not like to pick up the phone and make a call and would rather do some clicking, this is a big deal.”In addition, meeting videos can be embedded in the website and cue-points can be programmed so viewers can pick and choose what specific parts they want to watch.Annexation proposal placed on ballotWarrenton voters will decide whether or not the city should extend its western boundary by approximately 600 feet down the Interstate 70 corridor. The election will be held Tuesday, April 7.An ordinance and resolution related to the annexation proposal were both approved by a 5-0 vote.A public hearing on the proposal was held in December with no comments made at that time.City officials previously said it would likely take two more successful annexations before the city reached the Highway A/B overpass.City of Warrenton's current website
