The Warrenton Lady Warriors fell in the opening round of the Class 4, District 4 volleyball tournament to Ft. Zumwalt South.

Warrenton lost in four sets to the Bulldogs in the quarterfinal round. Warrenton finished the season 15-20.

The Lady Warriors dropped the opening set of the match 25-16. Warrenton head coach Randy Kindschuh said the Lady Warriors changed their lineup and things did not work out like they had hoped in the opening set. Warrenton responded in the second set with a 25-22 set win to even the match.

“In the second set, we thought we could exploit their youth with our serve and were successful getting them out of system enough for us to pull off the win,” Kindschuh said.

Warrenton dropped a back and forth third set 25-21. Kindschuh said both teams took early leads but Warrenton’s serve receive broke down.

The Lady Warriors dropped the final set 25-9.

“In the fourth set, all aspects of our game broke down,” Kindschuh said. “Specifically, our serve receive and our attacking. FZS played with a lot of confidence.”

Kindschuh said even though the Lady Warriors dropped their final two matches of the regular season, they felt good heading into the district quarterfinal match. They lost to Union and St. Charles in five sets heading into the district tournament.

The Lady Warriors were led by Zoe Klaus in the district quarterfinal loss. Klaus had a team-leading nine kills. She also had eight service points with one ace and one block at the net. Chandler Blondin and Rayne Van Reed each had seven kills. Nicole Benne and Emily Likes recorded five service points for the Lady Warriors. Likes had 22 assists. Kaelyn Meyer led Warrenton with two aces in the loss.
