Record Managing EditorWarrenton officials feel there is ample parking next to the post office and have decided against striping the adjacent city-owned lot.The board made the decision at the last meeting July 21 after reviewing the parking situation. The city owns the small gravel lot east of the post office as a way to provide extra parking, however most of the spots are utilized by postal employees during the day.In multiple visits to the post office at different times in recent weeks, city staff found that no more than four vehicles were parked on the post office lot.“There were multiple spaces on the lot beside the post office,” said Terri Thorn, director of operations/finance officer. “It appears there are plenty of spaces there. The only time we didn’t visit was (on a) Saturday morning.”Currently, there are 10 parking spaces available on the city lot. If the lot was striped, three additional spaces would be gained, Thorn said.In addition, striping the lot would have to be done on a regular basis. The initial cost to stripe the lot would be $500 and the ongoing cost would be $100 per striping and two hours of staff time.Committee appointments madeWarrenton Mayor Eric Schleuter made his appointments to the various city committees at the July 21 meeting. The following appointments were approved by the board:Ways and means — Gary Auch, chairperson; Toni Hawley; Karen Casserly; and Jim Dreyer.Police and personnel — Hawley, chairperson; Bob Delaloye; Auch; and Casserly.Infrastructure — Dreyer, chairperson; Damion Frederick; Auch and Delaloye.Recreation grounds and cemetery — Frederick, chairperson; Delaloye; Casserly; and Hawley.Auch was appointed as the board’s representative to the planning and zoning commission, while Hawley will be the liaison to the park board.
